Abstract
576,718. Automatic and manual control systems for eddy-current clutch drives. WINTHER, M. P. March 10, 1942, No. 3128. Convention date, March 19, 1941. [Classes 35 and 38 (iv)] Speed.-To overcome hysteresis effects in an eddy-current clutch having a variable excitation each change in excitation is accompanied by a temporary excessive change in the same sense. To maintain the speed of the output shaft constant a governor mechanism 21 actuates a lever 27 to vary the number of short circuited sections of resistance 33 in the excitation circuit of the clutch 3. An auxiliary lever, Fig. 2, (not shown) restrained by resilient connection to a fixed dashpot co-operates with the lever 27 to close temporarily a snap action switch 59 or 63, according to its direction of motion, whereby a relay 60 or 58 is operated for a short period to short circuit all resistance or to open the excitation circuit whenever the lever 27 changes its position. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, includes manual clutch controls. This subject matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
