Abstract

576,208. Card indexes. FAHLSTEDT, C. H. April 27, 1944, No. 7884. Convention date, April 22, 1943. [Class 146 (i)] A card index comprises a drawer 4, Fig. 1, for receiving a pile of index cards, the front edges of which have transverse cut-away portions of a size increasing from the uppermost to the lowermost card, a pointer 6 slidable on a rod 7 over an index on an upstanding part 5 of the cover 2 of the drawer casing, and a finger 8 movable with the pointer and engaging the cut-away parts of the cards and adapted, when the drawer is opened, to hold back all cards above that selected by the pointer so that the selected card is exposed in the open drawer. The front edges of the walls 10 of the drawer slope downwardly so that as the drawer is opened, the rod 7 rides up these portions and raises the finger 8 and the superposed cards. The opening movement of the drawer is limited by the rod 7 falling into recesses 11.
