Abstract

[Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXVII] In a multi-heat or like control arrangement, the step-by-step movement of a drum 20 or other member serves to connect singly or in various series and parallel arrangements three or more heating elements A, B, C, Fig. 4, or alternatively two or more heating elements A<1>, B<1> and an auto-transformer, Fig. 7. In the arrangement of Fig. 4, the two supply leads are connected to two fixed contacts R, B and the three elements A, B, C to four fixed contacts 1, 2, 3, 4. The drum 20 carries a number of bridging contacts 26 which connect the contacts R, B to the contacts 1, 2, 3, 4 in various ways according to the position of the drum, thereby providing a choice of nine different heats. In Fig. 7, some positions of the drum connect the elements A<1>, B<1> singly or in series or parallel across a portion of the auto-transformer, while other positions connect them across the full voltage of the supply B, R.
