Abstract

575,087. Plywood structures. KELSON, S. March 9, 1944, No. 4432. [Class 145 (ii)] In the construction of doors, panels, &c. of hollow form, a reinforcing core is used which is a modified form of the core described in Specification 575,032. In one form, a series of plywood strips or sheets 33, 34, Fig. 1, are bent to sinuous form and the ends of adjacent strips are connected together and inserted into slots 32 formed in the sides of a frame 31 to which are secured plywood sheets to complete the door &c. In a modification, Fig. 2, a core which can be extended to lattice form is made up of a number of sections as 35, 36 of the length of a wavelength of a sine curve, and similar sections 38, 39 are arranged below the sections 35, 36 and are staggered to the extent of half a wavelength relatively to the upper sections. The adjacent ends of sections 35, 36 are secured to the crest of section 38, and the ends of other sections are secured similarly to crests. The lattice may be connected in expanded condition by spacing members 41 inserted through openings in the sections, or the lattice may be held expanded by connection to a frame as in Fig. 1, and an outer plywood cover may complete the panel &c.
