Abstract
574,846. Safety razors. AUERBACH, Z. Sept. 16, 1943, No. 15230. [Class 30] A safety razor head made from a single piece or two pieces of sheet material, comprises cap parts 75, Fig. 6, separated by a narrow longitudinal central slot, bent guards 76 and base portions 77 spaced from the cap parts to form a passage for endwise movement of the blade. In the one-piece form, Fig. 6, the parts 77 are integrally connected by a part cylindrical spring portion 78 to which the handle 81 is secured and which acts to press the opposite sides of the head towards each other so that abutments 79 secured to the guard parts 76 grip the opposite edges of the blade. In the two-piece form, Fig. 4, the base parts are separate and bent to form outwardly diverging tongues engaging a tubular spring 55 on the handle. In a further form, Fig. 10, the base is provided with a depressed part 91 to accommodate a blade flexing member 96 operated by a shaft 97 passing through the handle. A blade magazine for use with the razors shown in Figs. 4 and 6, comprises a box-like member in which a pile of blades is spring pressed upwardly to be fed one by one by a pusher 71, Fig. 2, carried by a slide 70, out through a slot 68 in the front of the box, the front having a tongue 67 which is adapted to engage the slot between the cap parts and spread them apart to allow of free passage of the blade between the abutments 79. The sides 63, top 66, front 65, tongue 67 and back of the box are made by bending a suitably shaped metal blank. Figs. 15, 16 and 17 show a magazine for use with the razor of Fig. 10. The sides 101 of the magazine have their upper edges bent over and downwardly at 102 to form channels 107 and then horizontally to form platforms 103 which are provided with upstanding ribs 104. The front portions of the inner walls of the parts 102 are bent inwardly at 105 and those of the platforms 103 upwardly at 106. The box has a fixed sloping back wall 108 and a front wall 109 pressed upwardly by a spring tongue 110, and formed with outwardly bent platforms 111 and an inwardly bent projection 112 lying over the upper blade of a pile pressed upwardly by a spring 113. To use the magazine, the razor is inverted and pressed downwardly on the platforms 111 at the same time being pushed into the magazine with the guard parts engaging the channels 107 and the depression 91 in the base lying between the ribs 104. The pressure on the platforms 111 depresses the wall 109 causing the projection 112 to escape from the top blade and engage the next lower blade. The channels 107 are further apart than the guards so as to spread the razor head to permit free entry of the blade which as it enters ejects the old blade. The blade magazines described form the subjectmatter of Specification 574,864.
