574,725. Supersensitized emulsions. NICHOLSON, E. E., and COLLINS, R. B. Feb. 11, 1944, No. 2556. Drawings to Specification. [Class 98 (ii)] A silver halide emulsion is supersensitized with an oxa-, thia-, or selena-pseudocyanine dye in a quantity which alone is sufficient to impart good colour sensitivity to the emulsion, together with a 9-alkylthiacarbocyanine dye in a quantity which alone is insufficient to impart any substantial colour sensitivity to the emulsion and which is not greater than <1>/4oth of the weight of the pseudocyanine dye present. The pseudocyanine dye may be used in a quantity of 0.05 to 0. 1 gram per 10 litres of emulsion. Pseudocyanine dyes specified are 1 : 1<1>-diethyl-2 : 2<1> quinocyanine iodide, 1 : 3<1>- diethyl - 5<1> - chlorothiaquino - (2 : 2<1>) - cyanine iodide, 1 : 3<1>-diethylthiaqtiino-(2 : 2<1>)-cyanine iodide, and 1 : 3<1>-diethyl-5<1>-methylselenaquino- (2: 2<1>)-cyanine-iodide. 9-Alkylthiacarbocyanine dyes specified are 3 : 3<1> : 9-trimethylthiacarbocyanine iodide, 3 : 3<1>-diethyl-9-methylthiacarbocyanine iodide, 3 : 3<1> : 9-triethyl-5 : 5<1>- dichlorothiacarbocyanine bromide, 3 : 3<1>- diethyl-9-methyl-4 : 5 : 4<1> : 5<1> - dibenzthiacarbocyanine bromide, and 3 : 31-diethyl-9 : 5 : 5<1> - trimethylthiacarbocyanine iodide. Sensitizing data are given in respect of specified combinations of these dyes. Specification 498,290 is referred to.
