Abstract

574,401. Wireless apparatus. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., JAMES, E. G., and' LINDELL, A. O. E. Aug. 20, 1943, No. 13642. [Class 40 (v)] In electrical apparatus employing very high frequencies, of the kind embodying a medium that prevents transmission of oscillations through apertures in an enclosure by attenunating oscillations passing through it, the medium is metal wool. Fig. 1 shows an arrangement for preventing the escape of oscillations from a metal enclosure 1 at an aperture 3 formed for the passage of a shaft 2. The aperture is surrounded by a metal tube 4 packed with steel wool which serves to attenuate any oscillations which would pass through the aperture 3. In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 2 (not shown), a lid of a metal box is provided with depending flanges for engaging the top of the box. The space between the flanges is filled with metal wool. The invention can also be used where a lead passes through the enclosure.
