[Class 56] [Also in Group II] In a method of preparing for spraying a powdered or granular base substance coated with another substance which has a relatively low fusion temperature, the base material is heated sufficiently to fuse the coating material and to cause the latter to adhere to the base particles and form a surface coating thereon when the two are brought into contact with one another. When the thus coated particles are sprayed, the surface coating acts as a binder to cause the particles to become adherent to one another. Glass may be coated with zinc by heating the glass particles to a temperature not less than 420‹ C. in a revolving furnace and introducing a quantity of zinc in the form of pellets. Other examples of the base material include graphite, tungsten, carbide and siliceous substances which may be coated with tin, lead or synthetic resins.
