Abstract
Diolefins are separated from gas mixtures by means of the following selective solvents to which 2-20, preferably 5-10 per cent by volume of water is added: monochloracetone, diacetone alcohol, acetonyl-acetone, ethylene chlorhydrin, ethylene glycol mono- or diacetate, diethylene glycol, carbitol, dichlorhydrin, thio-diglycol or mixtures thereof. Continuous counter-current extraction is preferably employed, suitably at -5 to 40 DEG C. for butadiene. The gas may be recovered as by heating at normal or reduced pressure. The solvent may be fed to a packed tower up which a butylene-butadiene mixture containing 45 per cent by volume of the latter is passed so that the exit gas contains not more than 5 per cent. Comparative figures are given for the absorption of butadiene from mixtures containing butenes and small amounts of propene and ethylene using diacetone alcohol, acetonyl acetone, ethylene chlorhydrin, ethylene glycol mono-acetate or carbitol, alone and mixed with 5 or 10 per cent of water.
