Abstract
572,414. Soap. ABBEY, A. (Compania Industrial Soc. Anon.). Feb. 24, 1943, No. 3052. [Class 91] Soap is made from sperm oil in a single step by heating a mixture of the oil and anhydrous alkali to a temperature of about 270-280‹C. so as simultaneously to saponify the fatty acid esters and to transform the fatty alcohols into fatty acid soap, with agitation in vacuo and continuing the heating under the pressure generated by the liberated hydrogen gas during the ensuing reaction. The oil used may be raw, refined, or partially hydrogenated sperm oil. Sodium, potassium, and calcium hydroxides are specified and are preferably used in a finely divided form. Specification 370,769 is referred to.
