Abstract

572,152. Parachute attachments; collapsable boats. HUTCHINSON, G. R. Oct. 11, 1943, No. 16611. [Classes 4 and 113 (ii)] A car or container for attachment to a parachute has the walls formed of inflatable members, in order to protect the occupant or articles in the container from shocks during descent, and to enable the car to float in the event of its alighting on water. In the construction shown, the sides and base of the car comprise inflatable tubes 2, 4, interconnected by valves 11, and capable of simultaneous inflation by a gas container or generator 12, operated by the static line 14. The tubes are held together by means of straps 5 connected to a ring 7 at the base of the car and passing upwardly over the outside of the tubes and downwardly over the insides, being looped beneath the lowermost of the wall-forming tubes. A shock-absorber 8 may be provided at the base of the car, and hanger straps 9 hanging in cross-looped form in the interior provide a seat for the parachutist, a safety strap 10 being provided for attachment to the latter's harness.
