Abstract

571,778. Condenser microphones. KOLB, O. K. Dec. 10, 1943, No. 20687. [Class 40 (iv)] A condenser microphone is made with a flat diaphragm 2 which is given a dome shape away from the back plate 1 when fitted in position and prior to the application of the polarizing voltage. The diaphragm is made of a dielectric (e.g. mica 0.75 inch in diameter and 10 to 15 microns thick) coated with a conductive layer 3 on the side furthest from the back plate. The dome shape of the diaphragm may be produced by the tightening of its edge against the casing 8 and the back plate 1 by means of a clamping ring 7 and screws 6, the edge 9 of the back plate 1 protruding slightly beyond the seating face of the casing 8.
