Abstract
570,942. Displaying. POSNER, K. Dec. 3, 1943, No. 20218. [Class 3 (ii)] [Also in Groups VIII and XV] A device for holding stamps, pictures, coins or similar articles and which may form part of an album comprises a laminated sheet having the outer lamination provided with a number of slits and superimposed upon and united locally to another lamination by the application of heat and pressure in such places as to define and form a number of pockets between the laminations which are accessible through the slits. In one form, Fig. 5, five laminations are employed, the two outer laminations 20, 24 having slits 26, 27 respectively, the inner one 22 being plain and the two intermediate laminations 21, 23 having openings 34, 35 corresponding to the size of the pockets and being provided with flaps 32 which project through the slits and form covers for pockets. The laminations are secured together along lines adjacent to the side and bottom edges of the openings 34, 35 and the laminations 21, 23 serve to space the outer laminations from the central sheet 22. The edges 30 of slits are turned down and secured by adhesive to reinforce the slits. The laminations 23, 24 may be omitted so that pockets are formed on one side only of the lamination 22 and the spacing laminations 21, 23 may also be dispensed with if desired. A double-sided device may be constructed of two laminations only by staggering the slits in the lamination and forming flaps in one lamination to act as covers for the slits of the other lamination. Alternatively, the flaps may be provided on a central lamination. Moreover, by means of smaller slits adjacent to the main slits, pockets to receive slips of paper containing matter descriptive of the articles in the larger pockets may be provided. The sheets are secured locally by means of heat and pressure, using an adhesive which becomes tacky when heated is employed, whereby the sheet or sheets can be coated with adhesive and secured by local application of heat and pressure. Alternatively, material such as transparent films of cellulose acetate which becomes adhesive under heat may be used, in which event the blank sheet may be coloured. A machine is described for forming slits in two webs, and feeding these webs with an intermediate blank web to heated rollers with raised parts which apply heat and pressure to the webs at the desired locations. A knife severs the webs into sheets.
