Abstract

Synthetic resin compositions, e.g. moulding powders, contain as filling material chopped up or ground fibres of cellulose acetate obtained by the acetylation of cellulose with maintenance of its fibrous structure. Synthetic resins of thermosetting or thermoplastic character may be used. Cellulose acetate fibres having a degree of acetylation corresponding to that ranging from cellulose monoacetate to cellulose diacetate are suitable. Such fibres may be obtained by utilizing the waste produced when winding yarns of such acetylated cellulose or by acetylation of rejected fibres accumulated in cotton spinning. Articles moulded from the compositions have good mechanical strength and electrical insulating properties. Specification 280,493, [Class 2 (ii)], is referred to.
