[Class 83 (iv)] Winding and reeling.-In a machine for flattening a metal strip by stretching, of the kind comprising an elongated bed 10 provided with grippers 16, which can be adjusted along and secured to the bed, with power-operated grippers 17 and with an uncoiling device 21 to provide a length of strip to be stretched, the device 21 is mounted so that, after providing a strip, it can be moved out of the way. The grippers 16 can slide along the bed and be anchored by a hook 15 engaging one of the teeth 14 of the bed. The device 21 is carried on rails or a guide 19 at right angles to the bed 10 and has a rack 25, Fig. 5, engaged by a pinion 29 mounted on the guide 19 and driven at will by a motor 26. If the coil contains more metal than required for one flattened strip, the required length is cut off after uncoiling. A roller support 31 between the grippers 16, 17 may be provided. If it is desired to re-coil a flat strip with or without first oiling it, this is done by devices 32, 37 which straddle the bed, can be moved on rails 34, and can be secured in adjusted position by bars 49, Fig. 2, having pins to engage holes 47 in the bed and others 50, Fig. 10, in said devices. The oiler has motor-driven, felt-covered rollers 39 supplied with oil &c. by drip or other feeders 41 and tank 38. The re-coiler 32 has motor-driven bending rolls 35, Fig. 8, guide plates 36, 44 and support rolls 43.
