Abstract
569,301. Anti-icing devices. PESCO PRODUCTS CO. Dec. 15, 1943, No. 21019. Convention date, Dec. 5, 1942. [Class 4] An aircraft surface subject to ice formation is provided with a porous cover, and a mixture of air and de-icing fluid is delivered to the back of the cover so that the fluid is carried by the air through the pores. In one form, the leading edge of a wing is provided with a cover 10 of porous bronze and a dry air pump 12 delivers air through a conduit 11 to the back of the cover, alcohol being delivered to the conduit from a container 13 through an adjustable metering passage 14a. A byepass valve 17 and blow-off valve 16 are provided in the conduit. In an alternative form the alcohol is delivered by a metering pump to a nozzle at the throat of a venturichoke within the conduit 11. The air pump and metering pump may be driven by separate electromotors.
