[Class 47 (ii)] The whole or a part of the wall of the container which holds the fire extinguishing medium or pressure generating agent of a hand fire extinguisher is made of transparent or translucent plastic material, so that the fitness for service of the extinguisher can be determined by inspection. The transparent or translucent part of the container wall may be a circular window 26, Fig. 3 positioned opposite the normal liquid surface level when the extinguisher is in normal storage position and is clamped in position against a metal seating 28 in the wall by a metal clamping member 30 cooperating therewith without any intermediate packing material. Where the whole of the container wall is of transparent or translucent material, 31, Fig. 6, its flanged ends may be clamped to seatings in metal end members 35, 39 of the container by metal clamping members 37, 42 respectively, also without any packing material. The invention is described as applied to various forms of hand fire extinguishers of conventional type. The window may be of any shape and may extend the length of the extinguisher and bear graduated markings to indicate the liquid content.
