Abstract

568,276. Castors. NALLE, C. R. Aug. 19, 1943, No. 13510. [Class 52 (i)] A castor is adjusted vertically by releasing catches 14-22 from the annular grooves 4 of the shank 3 and then sliding the shank up or down inside the housing. Release of the catches shown in Fig. 5 is obtained by rotating the housing disc 10 containing them, so that their cam surfaces engage with fixed pins 9 on the housing 5, the catches then pivoting outwardly about their part-circular ends 16 rotatable in like recesses 15 in the disc 10. On adjustment of the shank 3, release of the disc 10 allows it to spring back by the pressure of helical springs 17 so that the cam surfaces 20 now move against the fixed pins 9, thereby moving the catch plate 14 whereby its tapered faces 22 re-engage the grooves 4 of the shank 3 to hold it in adjusted position..
