Abstract
566,998. Resilient hydraulic shockabsorbers. DOWTY EQUIPMENT, Ltd., and BINGHAM, A. E. Dec. 30, 1940, No. 18221. [Class 108 (iii)] A resilient fluidfriction apparatus depending upon the compression of liquid, comprises a plunger 11 working through a stuffing-box or packing 8 in the end of a cylinder 7 and a piston or damping head 12 on the end of the plunger partitioning the cylinder and carrying a damping valve 15 which is movable relatively thereto so as to provide a variable throttling effect. The valve is hollow with an end throttling orifice 18, spaced lateral orifices 19, 20, 21 and with shoulders 16, 17 limiting its relative movement. Two or more valves may be provided. The valves may be solid with leakage orifices formed by grooves running along part or the whole of its length. The groove may be of varying depth along the length of the valve. The valve may be fixed relatively to the cylinder.
