(Class 6 (i)] A fertilizer distributing machine comprises a hopper 41 from which the material is fed by worm 43 on to two endless conveyer belts 30 inclined upwardly towards the respective extremities of the machine. As it travels outwardly, the material is ejected over the sides of a trough 10 by stationary or oscillated frames 34 having scrapers 35 of V- or other suitable shape. The outer belt pulleys 20 are driven by bevel gearing and a shaft 22 extending the full width of the machine and rotated by a gear 23 and gear-box 24 connected to a power-shaft 7 on the tractor-drawn vehicle 8. The scraper frames 34 may be mounted on U-shaped springs 36, Fig. 6, secured to the trough sides 10 and may be oscillated transversely by eccentrics 37, Fig. 5, on the shaft 22 and levers 38 pivoted to the frames and trough. The belts 30 are supported on false bottoms 31, hinged at 32 to the frame carrying the inner pulleys 25 and supported at the outer ends by members 33 on the trough. The frame carrying the inner pulleys is adjustable vertically to vary the inclination of the belts by screw and hand wheel 28. The worm 43 is driven by bevel-gear 44 and chain from the shaft of one of the pulleys 25 and has a floating block 46 resting on the belts to prevent material falling between the pulleys. The belt tension is maintained by spring-controlled links 49 connected to collars 47 on the pulley shafts which are slidably carried in slots in the frame, Fig. 3. The frame of the distributer consists of members 12 ... 16 carried by angle members 11 extending from the vehicle platform. The rate of distribution of material may be varied by a variable speed in the gear-box 24 or by altering the gear ratio 21 or by vertical movement of the pulley frame by the hand wheel and screw 28. The trough may be in two parts, the inclination of which to the horizontal may be adjustable, the conveyer belt being then maintained horizontal. The inner pulleys may be gear driven and the belt-tensioning means applied to the outer pulleys 20. The outer ends of the trough are supported by struts 17 braced by a rod 19.
