Abstract

566,562. Electric railway conductors. BRITISH INSULATED CABLES, Ltd., HOLLAND, J., and SEPHTON, A. Sept. 23, 1943, No. 15647. [Class 104 (iii)] Section insulators for overhead contact wires consist of twin beams spaced apart and each carrying a runner for the adjacent conductor, the two runners overlapping longitudinally. Twin beams 1 of wood impregnated and coated with synthetic resin are fitted at each end with metal shoes 2 bolted to intermediate anchor plates 4 and spaced therefrom by bosses 3. Each plate 4 is attached to the catenary wire by a turnbuckle 7 and to the contact wire by a clamp 9. Each runner 13 is supported by brackets 16, 17 secured to one plate 4 and one beam 1, an additional electrical connection being provided by a conductor 20. The runners may be slotted to allow endwise adjustment. The insulator is supported by four adjustable eye-bolts 22 carried by extending tubes 23 each secured by clamps 24 mounted on a shoe 2. The air gap between the runners may be varied by supporting them below or between the beams.
