Abstract

Gelatinisation of polyvinyl dispersions, said dispersions comprising polyvinyl compounds distributed uniformly in a finely divided condition, while avoiding pressure and/or heating, in a practically non-volatile plasticising agent in which they are scarcely soluble to insoluble at ordinary temperature, in which the gelatinisation is carried out at temperatures from 170 to 220 DEG C. without the application of pressure. Preferred polyvinyl compounds consist of high molecular weight polymers and interpolymers of vinyl chloride having a viscosity index (K-value) of more than 40. Polyvinyl chloride is specified. Plasticising agents mentioned are dibutyl phthalate, tricresyl phosphate and dihexyl phthalate. Specification 500,298 is referred to.
