Abstract
565,826. Air cleaners. LISTER & CO., Ltd., R. A., and DARBY, N. W. May 24, 1943, No. 8225. [Class 8 (ii)] Gas is cleaned by first causing acceleration and reversal of flow, then flow over a surface wetted with liquid with change of direction, and finally passage through a gauze filter. The gas enters between the lid of the apparatus and an outer wall 4, the space between the two being constricted ; heavy dust particles are thrown into an annular vessel which may have a corrugated bottom 7, and the gas flowing in reversed direction passes with a further change of direction over a wetted surface 11 over which oil &c. is. drawn by the inducing action of the gas. The liquid is carried down a flange 11b of the surface into an oil container below the level of a weir 10 which permits only clean oil to be drawn over the surface. The gas is deflected on to the oil by a down-turned extension 7a of the bottom 7 and oil is further removed by the flange 9 of an inlet cone 8 which leads the gas through a gauze filter 14. The inlet is surrounded by a double-walled U- section 16 containing sound-proofing material which may also be contained in a hollow in the lid. The cone 8 forming an extension of the outer wall, and the lid, are removably held on the outlet section by a nut on a rod 19. The gas after passing over the surface 11 may be freed of oil by a separator with a sloping grid.
