Abstract
Transparent flexible sheet material for adhesive application to glass or transparent organic condensates or polymers is treated with an anti-misting and anti-frosting liquid composition compounded from a gel-forming substance such as gelatine in essentially alcoholic solution in the presence of an acid in low concentration to prevent coagulation. An example given comprises 12 grs. of gelatine, 6 grs. of salicyclic acid, 24 c.c.s of water, 80 c.c.s of 64 O.P. industrial methylated spirit. The gelatine is allowed to soak, melted at 100 DEG F. and a further 800 c.c.s of spirit then added. Suitable spreading agents are saponin, sodium taurocholate, sulphonated castor oil, such as turkey red oil, and the substances known under the Registered Trade Mark "Lonl," but preferably a sulphonated oil known as Calsolene oil H.S. Calsolene being a Registered Trade Mark. Ethylene glycol may be used as an anti-frosting agent. Unless in very low concentrations, the anti-frosting or spreading agent is added to the gelatine solution subsequent to its application to the sheet material, and may be used as a regenerating agent when the water-absorbent property of the film is becoming exhausted. Specification 564,987 is referred to.
