Abstract

564,805. Rontgen-ray apparatus. SIEMENS-SCHUCKERT (GREAT BRITAIN), Ltd., and TUNNICLIFFE, E. A. J. Dec. 24, 1942, No. 18324. [Class 98 (i)] Apparatus for X-ray examination of series of articles (e.g. the ceramic centres of sparking plugs) comprises a conveyer to which the articles may be attached seriatim at one station, and which conveys them to a stationary screened X-ray equipment at a second station for inspection. As shown, a conveyer disc 1 carried by a motor-driven shaft 3 is located within a screened (e.g. lead-lined) casing 6 except for a portion of its periphery at 7 where the articles 2 to be examined may be secured in succession to holders provided on the edge of the disc so that, as the disc rotates, the articles are carried into the casing to an inspection zone where a beam from an X-ray source 5 forms on a fluorescent screen 9 an X-ray image which is reflected by a mirror 8 to a glazed inspection window 10. The casing 6 forms part of a wheeled cabinet 4 having a seat 14 for the inspection operator ; the seat may control a switch device for energizing the ray-tube 5 ; and within reach of the inspection operator are a device 12 for marking specimens seen to be faulty, a device (e.g. a variable rheostat) for regulating the speed of the disc, and a button 15 for arresting the disc. The article holders on disc 1 may be such as to permit movement of the articles as they pass through the X-ray beam, e.g. the holders may be rotatable on an horizontal axis and have a rubber-tyred wheel which runs over a fixed surface in the inspection zone.
