Abstract
564,324. Cooling extrusion-coated wires. BRITISH INSULATED CABLES, Ltd., STEWARD, H. M., BLACKBURN, R., CARSTEN, H. R. F., and PACKER, J. L. March 22, 1943, No. 4637. [Class 87 (ii)] The coated wire is cooled gradually by passing it through a bath or baths of fluid which decrease in temperature in the direction of travel of the wire. Thus, the wire may pass through three water baths in succession, the first being steamheated and only a little cooler than the wire, the second also being steam-heated but much cooler and the third being at room temperature. Alternatively, only one bath 31 may be used, the drop in temperature from left to right being attained by introducing cold water at 14; steam passes from left to right through pipe 33, hot water falls over a lip into a waste pipe 35 and the coated wire 3 leaves the bath through a rubber packing at 36. The trough 31 may slope towards the left.
