Abstract

[Class 97 (iii)] [Also in Group XIX] A device for measuring variables by means of a pressure gauge, comprises a vessel 1 with a diaphragm 2, an inlet 6 adapted to receive a restricted flow of gas from a pressure supply, an outlet 7 for transmitting the pressure in the vessel to a pressure gauge 9, and an escape outlet 10, a valve 12 controlling the amount of a small escape of gas through the outlet 10 whereby the pressure in the vessel is changed, means whereby the valve is adjusted according to changes in the variable and means whereby the valve receives a counter-adjustment. As shown, the movements of a capsule 21, due to the variation to be measured, are transmitted by a system of levers and flexible links to a palette 12 in such a manner that movements and vibrations due to external influences are cancelled out. The invention is applicable to the measurement of various kinds of physical conditions, e.g. pressure and temperature, or mechanical movements, e.g. engine r.p.m., fuel content or consumption, oil temperature or pressure, aircraft flap and undercarriage position. The capsule 21 may be replaced in temperature measurement by a bimetallic strip.
