Abstract

563,683. Electric discharge apparatus. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AKTIEBOLAGET. Dec. 21, 1942, No. 18102. Convention date, Jan. 9, 1942. [Class 39 (i)] In a discharge apparatus having internal anode sleeves 5 and a screen 4 inside the container 1 surrounding the lower ends of sleeves 5 and the cathode space 3, the interior of sleeves 5 are heated while the apparatus is idling by a source of heat applied locally adjacent the sleeves and an arc spot is maintained on the cathode, in order to maintain the discharge apparatus at a suitable temperature, for instance, a current of 1 ampere may be maintained between a grid 10 associated with each anode 6 and the cathode 2. This may be done by disconnecting the grids from their normal supply and connecting them to a separate source of suitable voltage. A separate exciting anode 11 may also assist in maintaining the preliminary heating discharge and the arc spot required. Alternatively, the anode sleeves may be heated by resistance elements and the anode 11 alone maintains the arc spot. Specification 412,773, [Group XXXV], is referred to.
