Abstract
563,658. Glass manufacture. AKTIEBOLAGET ORREFORS GLASBRUK. Jan. 28, 1943, No. 1498. Convention date, Feb. 2, 1942. [Class 56] Relates to a method of making a glass article, such as a shade for lighting, in which the surface of the glass is so patterned that objects close to the glass cannot be seen through it. According to the invention, molten glass is placed in a shallow mould having side members surrounding a bottom which is formed with projections or corrugated designs, pressing or rolling the glass to spread it in the mould, and then pressing or otherwise forming a design on the upper surface of the glass. Preferably, this design consists of projections or corrugations having a general direction which is different from those on the lower surface of the sheet or plate thus formed. If desired, the mould bottom or the hot glass may be strewn with powdered glass which melts and forms small beads on the glass article. Finally, the sheet or plate is heated until it is plastic and placed on or in a second mould, having a smooth bottom, onto which the softened glass sinks and takes the required shape.
