[Classes 20 (iv) and 107] Concrete or paved areas, such as runways for aircraft, are drained by means of trenches or catch basins formed of concrete and covered by a grating formed of a number of concrete bars extending across the trench, &c. In Figs. 1 and 2, a concrete catch basin 1 has shoulders 3, 4, supporting transverse concrete bars 5, the upper surfaces of the bars being flush with the top of the basin 1; transverse walls 6 are provided at intervals along the length of the basin. The bars have rectangular ends 8, Fig. 3, and narrower central portions 10, and may be interlocked with the basin by means such as projections 12, recesses, ribs or corrugations, engaging complementary formations. Concrete, &c. packing pieces 13 take up play. The bars may be reinforced as by iron rods 14, Fig. 5, with hooked ends engaged by wire stirrups 15, 15<1>. A number of basins may be formed side by side, and may be separate or a common partition wall may separate adjacent basins. The catch basins may be formed of pre-cast units placed on a trench, &c., and the walls 6 may be integral therewith or separate; the units may be open at one end.
