562,483. Sewing machines. FAIRWEATHER, W. C. (Singer Manufacturing Co.). Dec. 29, 1942, No. 18448. [Class 112] The underside of a rotary hook 15 has a flange 18, which may have conical sides, depending into an oil cavity 33 in the upper end of the hook-supporting saddle 28. An oil duct 60 opening from the cavity communicates with the spool-case raceway 161. The floor of the cavity 33 is provided by a hardened steel plug 64. Four balls 69 are placed between the hook and the plug 64 and are kept separate by a suitable-cage free to rotate. Oil passing into the cavity 33 from duct 67 is conveyed by the balls to the depending flange 18 and, so, to the duct 60. In a modification, the space within the flange 18 is filled by a felt pad which conveys the oil to the inner wall of the flange 18. In this construction, the plug 64 is not needed and its place is taken by an integral portion of the saddle 28.
