The cross-bar C is turned to raise the arms E, e<1> upwardly by pulling a rope H connected to a lever g<1> on a stem or handle A attached to the frame B, the lever g<1> being connected by a rod g<2> and links g3, g<4> to arms g<5>, g<6> on the cross-bar C. The arms E, e<1> are caused to approach or recede from one another by operating a lever f<5> connected by a rod f links f<2> , f<3> and levers f, f<1> to the levers D, d<1>. In another construction shown in Fig. 4, the back support frame is fitted with an adjustable head-rest K mounted on slides K<1> and the arms E, e<1> are raised and turned by handles R, r<1> and a cross-bar W in curved slots M across the person's chest. The handles R, r<1> also operate curved rods p<3>, p<4> adjacent the person's legs. The arms E, e<1> and rods p<3>, p<4> carry webbing straps N, P for securing the person more firmly and are locked in position by a rack releasable by a finger piece T. Fixed handles Q, q<1> are provided adjacent the handles R, r<1>. The Provisional Specification states that the curved arms may be moved by springs.
