Abstract

559,012. Preventing formation of ice on aircraft surfaces. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. July 22, 1942, No. 10276. Convention date, Jan. 30. [Class 4] In an ice-eliminating system constituting an improvement upon that of Specification 439,284 the distributer is actuated to connect each chamber of a plurality of chambers in turn to a source of fluid pressure, to atmosphere and to a source of suction, and, when the source of pressure is cut off and the distributer arrested, all the chambers are connected to the suction source. A rotary valve 47, shown separately in Fig. 5, is mounted in the distributer with heads 48, 19 shown in Fig. 2, and rotated by the motordriven shaft 46. Connections 52 to the chambers are arranged round the heads and a connection 55 to the suction provided together with a port 65 for admitting pressure into the valve 47, which has a port 70 of sufficient circumferential extent to place three chambers under suction at one time; for the purpose of exhausting another chamber when the distributer is stopped, slots 73 are provided in the edges of a port 71 (normally used for inflating), a hole 74 being provided between ports 71 and 72 (which is normally used for connection to atmoshpere) for placing the remaining chamber under suction when the distributer is stopped.
