[Classes 78 (iii) and 78 (iv)] [Also in Group XXII] In a foundry gantry, runway or the like arranged between a conveyer b for full moulding boxes and a return conveyer c for empty boxes, a travelling carriage d supports a pneumatic vibrator device arranged between pneumatic lifting and lowering means and moulding-box suspension means so that full moulding boxes can be picked up, transported, vibrated to loosen the castings and knock out sand, and the empty boxes passed to the return conveyer. As shown, two pneumatic lifting cylinders e are suspended between side plates on the carriage d and connected by a tubular spacer-bar g through which compressed air is supplied from a pipe h, the piston-rods f being connected to the vibrator carrier i by semi-circular flanges k to permit swinging of the vibrator when the load is manipulated. The vibrator, consists of a cylinder, Fig. 3, having a side-passage from which lateral passages 17, 18 lead into the cylinder bore. One of the passages 17, 18 is always closed by the piston x and when air is admitted from a pipe t, Fig. 1, through an inlet u to the side passage, it passes through passage 17 or 18, annular recess z or 10, and upper or lower parts 13 to force the piston to strike one or other of anvil plates v, w at the cylinder ends, the resultant vibrations being transmitted through the carrier i to the box suspension hooks n. A valve-box s controls the supply of compressed air.
