Abstract
558,617. Drying accelerators; coating compositions. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO., E. I., and CUPERY, M. E. May 22, 1942, No. 6985. [Class 95] [Also in Group IV] A coating composition comprises an oleoresinous vehicle, and an α, #-unsaturated ketone in which the unsaturation is present in an aliphatic chain or in a cycloaliphatic ring. The ketones act, as drying- accelerators, and metallic driers also, e.g. cobalt or manganese naphthenates, are preferably present. A specified oleoresinous vehicle is an oil-modified alkyd resin. Specified ketones, which are preferably used in an amount ranging from 0.5 per cent. to 20 per cent. of the resin present, are: benzal acetone, butylidene acetone, mesityl oxide, furfural acetone, benzal methyl ethyl ketone, methyl vinyl ketone, ethylidene acetoacetic ester, #-acetoacrylic acid or esters, phorone, isophorone, dibenzalacetone, difurfuralacetone, cyclohexenone, and pulegone. Examples are given.
