[Class 44] In a band clip for jointing hose-pipes and like uses and of the kind in which tightening is effected by winding one end of the band on to a bar or spindle, one end of the band is wound several times round the bar, and the clip then passed round the pipe. The other end is then secured to the bar as by being passed through a slot therein and then wound thereon, the other end of the band being simultaneously unwound, the bar being free to have a precessional or planetary movement around the pipe &c. being secured. The invention provides that the winding and unwinding occur at different rates so that tightening is obtained by the differential effect. Fig. 1 shows a bar having the central portion C of greater diameter than the end portions A, B. The bar is provided with a slot D to receive the band ends and with tommy holes E by which the bar may be rotated. Fig. 2 shows a suitable metal tape having a single tongue G at one end and a pair of tongues F, F<1> at the other, the slot between the tongues F, F<1> being at least as wide as the tongue G. In use the ends F, F<1>, which may be united by a crosspiece F<11>, are inserted in slot D and given the necessary number of turns round the ends A, B. The band is then passed twice round the part I to be tightened on the part H and the end G passed through the central part of the slot D and bent down, Fig. 3. The bar is then rotated anticlockwise so that it rolls anticlockwise round the parts H, I, the ends F. F' being unwound from the ends A, B and the end G simultaneously wound on to the part C. As the winding occurs at a greater rate than the unwinding the clip is tightened by the resultant shortening of the effective length of the band. Alternative bands of V-form or of wire, and the use of bands having more than three tongues are described. The parts of the clip may be metallic or non-metallic, a bar of synthetic resin or a casein or cellulose product and a band of catgut, textile or cellulose product being mentioned. A similar differential tightening effect may he obtained by giving the object on which the clip is secured, e.g. a coupling-piece within the ends of two hose-pipes, different diameters to receive the different ends of the clip.
