Abstract

557,140. Cow-milkers. PACKMAN, P. J., WHATLEY, L. H., and MILES, F. G. April 29, 1942, No. 5793. [Class 84] A teat cup is adapted to be retained on an udder or teat by means of a suction device operating independently of vacuum pulsations applied to the teat .cup. As shown, teat cups 12, moulded from rubber, synthetic rubber or other mouldable resilient material, are formed with a hollow annulus 13 having an annular opening or a series of openings. The annuli 13 are connected by flexible pipes 14 to tubes 28 on a hollow drum 27 on a stand or claw 17 by which the teat cups are carried, and the teat cups by flexible pipes 15 to branch pipes 23, 24 on the base 16. The drum 27 communicates with a pipe 20 though which a non-pulsating suction is applied to the annuli 13, and the branch pipes 23, 24 with pipes 18, 19 connected with a pulsator, preferably as described in Specification 557,158, whereby the cups are subjected to aslow rise in suction followed by a sudden rapid pressure equalisation between the inside and outside of the cup. The apparatus can be transported without cutting off the suction to the annuli 13 by inverting the kinked pipes 14 in eyes 32 on arms 31 of a bracket 30. The teat cups may be adapted, as by thickening towards the base, to give a progressive downward squeeze. Alternatively the teat cups may be surrounded by a rigid outer casing to which pressure pulsations are applied. Specifications 316,988 and 323,762, [both in Class 84], also are referred to.
