[Class 79 (iii)] [Also in Groups XXXIV and XXXV] To avoid danger from fire or explosion, the brakes and motors of electrically propelled vehicles are enclosed in gas tight casings that are resistant to internal gas pressure. As shown the casing a is divided by a partition d into compartments b, c, containing the motor and brake respectively. The brake comprises a pair of brake shoes i, i<SP>1</SP> arranged to be applied to a drum on the motor shaft f, by springs and to be released by a cam in a cam shaft n. The bearings of the cam and motor shafts in the casing and the passage of the cable p are gas and spark proof.
