[A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Nov. 6, 1942.] [Class 51 (ii)] In a bakers' oven having a travelling conveyer for the material being baked and radiant heating means within the baking chamber containing a heating medium which is isolated from the baking-chamber, means are provided for directing blasts of the oven atmosphere downwardly upon and upwardly toward the material being baked. Adjustable means are provided for proportioning the supply of oven atmosphere to the downward and upward blasts without altering the total delivery to the blasts. Fig. 2 shows a conveyer oven in which the goods are baked by radiant heat from tubes 7 through which pass combustion products from the furnace 5. The oven atmosphere is withdrawn by a fan from the lower part of the oven through a duct 15 provided in its upper surface with a tapering slot and delivered through ducts 12 and 22 in the oven wall to transverse ducts 9 and 10 having jet openings in their lower and upper surfaces respectively through which the atmosphere is delivered downwardly and upwardly towards the conveyer trays 4. A hinged flap 19 in the duct 12 controls the supply of atmosphere to the ducts 9, 10, which are provided with baffles to distribute the atmosphere to the jets. Fig. 5 shows a modification in which the ducts 9 and 10 are superposed with the lower run of the conveyer passing between them.
