555,893. Gauges. COVENTRY GAUGE & TOOL CO., Ltd., WAINWRIGHT, J. E., and JELLIS, M. June 27, 1942, Nos. 8866/42 and 1519/43. [Class 106 (ii) ] A gauge for circular or partly circular workpieces of the type which makes contact at at least three points of the periphery of the work-piece has a gauging roller rotatably mounted on a fixed axis in the gauge body, the angular movement of the roller determining the dimension. In the form shown in Fig. 1, for gauging external screw-threaded work-pieces the gauge comprises a body portion 2 supporting a rotatable gauging roller 3, locating rollers 4 and clearance pads or shoes 5. The gauging roller 3, Fig. 7, is rotatably mounted on a bearing bush 6 fixed in the body 2 and through which passes a spindle 8 to which the roller is attached by means of a removable cap 9 and dowel pins 11. The spindle 8 is formed with a knob 12 and a collar 13 having calibrations to co-operate with a datum mark on a fixed flange 14. The gauging roller is formed with peripheral portions or sectors a and b which may determine the " go " and " not go " limits of tolerance or they may be of progressively increasing diameter in the direction in which the roller is rotated for gauging purposes. Th locating rollers 4 are mounted on the eccentric portions of pins 16 to provide adjustment for wear. In a modification, Fig. 8 (not shown), the gauging roller is arranged at one end of the body part and not between the locating rollers as in Fig. 1. Also the body portion may carry a set of interchangeable gauging rollers for the various effective dimensions to be gauged.
