Abstract

554,944. Resilient supports. LORD MANUFACTURING CO. Nov. 7, 1941, No. 14378. Convention date, Oct. 15, 1940. [Class 108 (iii)] Resilient supports for articles subjected to shock or vibration comprise outer rigid plates with an interposed rubber or similar element having rows of lengthwise grooves or slots arranged to break up the rubber mats into inclined columns. The resilient support 5, Fig. 3, is bonded to two rigid plates 1, 2 and is formed with grooves 7 alternately on opposite sides so that the rubber forms inclined columns 5a adapted to yield mainly by shear for movement in a vertical or horizontal direction. Several such supports may be superposed. A circular support may be formed with circular grooves. In Fig. 10, plates 30 with burred over edges are separated by a rubber element having slots 34a each equal to two grooves 34. The slots and grooves may be of rectangular shape. The plates may be grooved to engage the rubber as shown at 59 in Fig. 13.
