[Class 52 (1)] A storage arrangement comprises containers mounted in rows for relative lateral movement the containers having their front access faces all in same direction and the containers in one row mating by stepped or inclined face with those of an adjacent row, the depth, length and height of the storage supports in the containers or the containers themselves being graded so as to provide storage spaces of different proportions. Fig. 2 shows a fixed row 10 of containers and a sliding row 13 the contiguous faces being stepped. Shelving is provided which is graded in depth and vertical divisions may also be provided so that the storage space may be economically utilised by articles of different sizes and the arrangement is such that the articles stowed within normal reach i.e., within the height defined by the lines A, B, are duplicated by those stowed in the heights above and below such height. To obtain access to the fixed row of containers the front row 13 are slid laterally. Figs. 4 and 7 indicate examples of arrangements in which the back row is fixed and the other rows are movable laterally, the various or graded depths of the shelving being indicated by dotted lines. Fig. 12 shows an arrangement in which the units 53- 59 in a row are graded as to length, a space length 60 equal to the length of the longest unit being provided whereby the units may be moved laterally to expose one or more units in an adjacent rear row. In another arrangement the units may be superposed the open access faces being at the top, somewhat resembling the units shown in Figs. 4, and 7 laid on their backs.
