Abstract

553,974. Filtering liquids. GREAVES, C. Jan. 13, 1942, No. 479. [Class 46] [Also in Group II] Relates to sieves or filters of the kind comprising rods or wires M arranged side by side and of such crosssection that the sifting aperture widens towards the underside of the sieve, and consists in jointing the rods &c. at frequent intervals by a metal fusion operation to a support F of an area about equal to that of the sieve and having openings H of larger dimensions than the sieving apertures. As shown, the support is a plate with corrugations to the top of which the bars are jointed. Alternatively the support may be constructed of metal bars, cast rolled or forged sections &c. joined together, and may be shaped so that the sieving surface is flat, serrated, curved, circular or other desired shape. The jointing may be of welding, brazing, or soldering, and the metals used may be any that permit these operations, such as iron, steel or steel alloy, brass, copper or bronze, or light metals and alloys such as aluminium-magnesium alloys. The rods, or the support, or both may be turned, coppered, or galvanised before the jointing operation, which may be effected with or without an intermediate metal alloy or flux.
