Abstract

553,872. Dyeing nylon. COURTAULDS, Ltd., and MACGREGOR, J. H. Nov. 6, 1941, No. 14305. [Class 15 (ii)] The dyeing affinity of nylon for direct cotton dyestuffs in an acid dyebath is modified by treating the nylon with a cationic soap as a pretreatment and/or by inclusion of the soap in the dye bath. The affinity of the nylon for the dyestuff is increased by the presence of 0.1 to 1.0 per cent. of the cationic soap on the weight of the nylon and partially or totally inhibited by the presence of 2 to 5 per cent. It is thus possible to produce two-tone effects in mixed fabrics. In an example, nylon fabric is soaked at room temperature, for 20 minutes in a solution of 30 grams of cetylpyridinium bromide in distilled water with acetic acid, rinsed and dved with acidified Chlorozol Fast Pink BK for 1 hour at 95 to 100‹C.
