Abstract
552,853. Pocket igniters. ROSEDALE, N. H. Oct. 23, 1941, No. 13658. [Class 75 (iii)] In a pocket igniter of the kind comprising a fuel container provided with a filling opening fitted with a removable stopper having an inner extension tipped with a steel point and a wick, the fuel container is formed of two parts 10, 36 of a plastic material such as cellulose acetate capable of being united when cold by a solvent such as acetone. The part 10 consists of a shallow box having partitions 26 one on each side of the filling opening 12 to form a middle compartment 28 to receive the extension 18 of the tapered stopper 14. The box except for the compartment 28 is packed with absorbent material before the lid 36 is secured in place. A strip 32 of pyrophoric material is moulded into or secured in a groove in one edge of the box. The stopper extension 18 is fitted with a steel wire 20 having asbestos wick material 22 secured by a metal sleeve 24 near its striking point. A metal ferrule 40 may be provided on the extension 18 to protect it from the flame. The box may be of circular, oval, or other shape.
