Abstract

552,585. Spectacles.WISEMAN & CO., Ltd., M., and WISEMAN, M. Oct. 13, 1941, No. 13174. [Class 97 (i)] Apertured lugs forming hinged-joint parts for spectacles are stamped from sheet metal and have at least one shank of square cross section. As shown, a hinged joint is formed by two lugs 3 each having one such shank 6 secured in a hole in the front 2 of a non-metallic frame, and by a lug 4 having two such shanks in holes in the side 1 of the frame, each lug having a hole S for the hinge pin. The holes in the frame are preferably cylindrically formed, and have a diameter greater than the side of a shank but less than a diagonal, the shanks being forced into them and riveted over at their ends. The two lugs 3 may be formed by one stamping comprising a connecting bridge which is bent to position the lugs. The shanks may pass through holes in the flattened end of reinforcing wires, or through a loop or coil formed in the wire. The abutting surfaces 22, 23 of the sides and frame may form a bevel, as shown, or may be perpendicular to the front of the frame.
