Abstract
551,460. Optical-projection apparatus. BECK, E. W., and WALKER, V. May 11, 1941, No. 3014. [Class 97 (i)] [Also in Groups XVI and XXIII] One or more surfaces of a transmitting or reflecting element in an optical-projection apparatus is treated so as to have a multiplicity of minute closely-spaced projections, and is polished by treatment with an aqueous solution of hydrofluoric and sulphuric acids in the ratio by weight, of more than two parts of sulphuric acid to one of hydrofluoric acid ; the ratio may be five to one. The treatments may be applied to one or more surfaces of the condenser system to the surface of a reflector behind the light source or elsewhere, or to an aspherical lens in the optical system. The Figure shows a projection system in which the plane surface of a condenser lens 62, or both its surfaces and either or both of the surfaces of the lens 61, are so treated the outer surface 71 of a reflector 70 may also be treated. The projections may be formed by etching, moulding, casting, pressing, abrading, or otherwise, and the polishing may be effected by dipping the lens &c. alternately into the acid bath at an elevated temperature and into fresh water.
