Abstract

550,013. Compass systems. LEAR AVIA, Inc. May 1, 1941. No. 5671. Convention date, May 16,1940. Addition to 549,847 [Group XL] [Class 40 (i)] [Also in Group XL] Relates to the composite navigation indicator described in the parent Specification comprising (1) a radio - compass index 50, 50<SP>1</SP>, moved through cable 31 by an automatic directionfinder which is continuously oriented on the radio station, (2) a lubber-line index 60 moving with the aircraft, and (3) a desired-course index 40 carried by a turntable 85 rigid with the rotor 86 of a repeater controlled by a remote magnetic or gyroscopic compass, 76. According to the present invention, the desired-course index is adjusted relatively to the compass reading by correspondingly displacing the stator 96, 97 of the receiver. The repeating system is of the selsyn type, the three live wires being connected to the receiving stator by brushes and slip rings 100 so that the stator can be adjusted. The stator 96, 97 is encased in a tubular member 93 having an annular extension 102 bearing a scale 71 accessible through a slot in the indicator casing 73, so that the member 93 and stator can be turned by hand to an extent indicate by the scale. Specification 550,131, [Group XL], is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 also describes one of the arrangements described in the parent Specification. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
