Abstract
549,308. Treating textiles with liquids. TOOTAL BROADHURST LEE CO., Ltd., HALL, A. J., and WOOD, F. C. May 27, 1941, No. 6774. Addition to 538,396. [Class 15 (ii)] The reagent which has been used in the process of the parent Specification for reducing the tendency of wool to felt is prepared for reuse by raising its temperature to at least 25‹C., cooling it, and separating impurities, and/or by adding to it a limited quantity, not exceeding 5 per cent by volume, of a concentrated aqueous alkali solution and then separating the non- aqueous phase. The method of adding alkali to the organic .liquid mixture may be used for introducing or adjusting the alkali when preparing a fresh quantity of reagent. The alkaline substance may be caustic soda. The. organic solvent for the alkaline substance may be an alcohol having at least three carbon atoms such as butyl alcohol, and the organic non-solvent may be a hydrocarbon such as white spirit or kerosene. Clarification of the used reagent may be carried out in presence of a small quantity of water which may be introduced directly or by steam. The addition of water assists in the collection of the colloidal impurities. Specification 538,711 also is referred to.
