Abstract
548,077. Tank vehicles. BROWNLOW, R. S. April 4, 1941, No. 4549. [Class 108 (i)] [Also in Group I] A water cart, trailer or like vehicle is provided with a storage tank T and filters F, F<SP>1</SP> associated with semi-rotary hand pumps P, P<SP>1</SP> fitted with threeway suction and delivery valves. B, B<SP>1</SP> Fig. 4, and C, C<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 6, arranged so that, in one position, the pumps can take in water through flexible pipes 1, 1a, and force it through pipes 6, 6a, the filters and pipes 10, 10a, into the tank and in another position, can draw clean water from the tank through pipes 5, 5a, and pump it via pipes 7, 7a, and branches 8, 8a, through the filters in the reverse direction for back flushing purposes. Stop valves A, A<SP>1</SP> and three-way valves D, D<SP>1</SP> are opened during filtering and stop valves G, G<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 3, (not shown) and flush taps E, E<SP>1</SP> during backflushing. Three-way valves H, H<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 11, are adapted to connect or disconnect the pipes 6, 6a and 7, 7a or connect the pipes to a drain 12. The valves P, P<SP>1</SP> are adapted also to connect the outlet from the filter to a waste pipes 9, 9a. The inlet pipes, 1, 1a are fitted with a strainer 2 and an adjustable cork float 3. The filters F, F<SP>1</SP> are preferably of the edge filtering type comprising a helically-wound wire or a pile of discs, such as described in Specification 535,832, [Group I], used with a filtering paste, such as kieselguher in the form of a thick cream, introduced through funnels K, Kl. The water may be sterilised by passing through a solid re-agent r in tanks t with perforated bottoms or by allowing a liquid re-agent to drip continuously into the tank T at the points when the water is delivered into the tank.
